I have been thinking of cutting and dyeing my hair for a while now, feels good to start over as a naturalista and have a bit of a hair change. My interest in doing this has made me to research on tips i need to know before i take this step and I also know that this venture means i will have to take better care of my hair, since i have altered it via the coloring.
Before we talk of after coloring tips, let’s look at a few things you need to know before you color your hair
First of all (go down low.lol) ensure you picked a shade of dye that would suit your skin tone. You don’t want to look like an “agbero” because you wanted a different hair color. It is advised that you go two shades darker or lower than you real hair color. If you do decide on something drastic, like a red or purple, biko, try to google people that are close to your skin tone and what it looked like on their hair.
Healthy hair picks color better than unhealthy hair and if you have not been taking great care of your hair prior to coloring, it may affect the outcome of the treatment as well.
Remember that the color on the pack may not be how your hair will turn out because of your hair color. A much brighter effect may be achieved if you bleach your hair prior to the coloring.
Do not wash your hair a day to the dye, wash some days before, the natural oil your scalp produces is needed so that you can achieve an even color result.
Try to do a hot oil treatment prior to the hair washing so as to keep your hair nourished before the color treatment. When shampooing your hair, you can use a clarifying shampoo to remove product build up from your hair.
Get a good hair stylist that knows what he or she is doing so that you don’t have a terrible experience.
Hair coloring is a great way to change your look; the whole “new hair, who’s this??”
