The Amazing Soursop Fruit Good For The Body

Soursop fruit is a tropical fruit. It is a heart shaped and green in color with “spines” on the flesh. Though the skin is inedible, the white flesh is soft and has a sour-acid taste. It is also known as Graviola, Brazilian pawpaw.

This fruit is used in traditional medicine. All parts of the tree are useful: from the bark of its tree, the stems to the leaves and fruit seed. The most touted benefit, though not yet supported by scientific research on humans is that it can kill some cancerous cells without harming normal cells, unlike chemotherapy.

The fruit contains nutrients which include protein, sugar, fatty acids, dietary fiber, Vitamins C, B1, B2, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium chloride and many bioactive compounds and phytochemicals. These inherent components make it a “miracle” fruit.

The fruit juice is used in ice cream production. Some other uses of soursop include:

• Strengthens the immune system
• Antiseptic in nature
• Can increase production of breast milk
• Aids in the treatment of diarrhea
• Helps control diabetes, treatment if hypertension, arthritis and rheumatism
• Treatment of skin eruptions, healing of wounds, eczema and anti-aging benefits
• Useful in tackling head lice

A note of caution though, pregnant women should avoid this fruit as it is a potent uterine stimulant. Those on anti-hypertensive and antidepressants drugs are advised to be careful with soursop, as it may potentiate these drugs.
