Timi Dakolo came into limelight in 2007, when he won the maiden edition of the Idols West Africa. His sonorous voice has since captured the hearts of many. He is a singer, song writer and performer. He was born in Ghana on January 20, 1981 to Nigerian father (who is from Bayelsa) and a Ghanaian mother whom he lost at the age of 13. Along with his victory at the singing competition, he also got a recording deal with Sony MG amongst other prizes.
Like a lot of artistes, he started his singing career from church, where he later went on to be the founding member of a defunct singing group, Purple Love. Before the Idols West Africa, he had previously won the G.E FACTO Award in Port Harcourt where he had grown up living with his grandmother.
He studied Communication Studies at the University of Port Harcourt
He released his first single after his win in October 2009 and he is currently signed with Lone Records/Now Muzik. He later went on to release his debut album titled “Beautiful Noise” in 2011, and it received wide acclaim.
He was a judge on the 2016 edition of The Voice Nigeria which Arese won.
Timi has been dubbed the King of Soul music in Nigeria and he is married to Busola Dakolo. They have three kids together, a boy and two beautiful girls whom he calls “the yard people.”
Apparently, Timi Dakolo is a very funny dude because the ace comedian, Alibaba referred to him recently as a non-performing comedian.
