Colour Rules for Mixing Ankara with Western Pieces
The most common mistake when mixing Ankara with western clothing is clashing rather than contrasting. Here are the colour principles that make every combination work:
Pull a colour from the print for your western piece. If your Ankara fabric has a strong cobalt blue in the print, your western basic should be in that exact cobalt or a neutral. This creates cohesion — the outfit reads like a deliberate pairing, not an accident.
Neutrals never fail. White, black, camel, cream, and grey work with virtually every Ankara print in existence. When in doubt about which western piece to pair, reach for a neutral.
Avoid competing prints. Stripes, florals, and checks on your western piece will fight your Ankara for attention. Keep the western half clean so the African print remains the visual anchor.
