What You Get From Eating Avocado

If I say I like avocado, I lie! I am sorry; I am yet to find a way to consume this fruit. My parents love it but to me, its bleeghh! If you have a way you eat yours (apart from salting it or putting in sandwich) biko, share with me. People use them in salads, smoothies or even brownies nowadays.

Regardless of my current dislike for avocado, the fruit has tremendous benefits that I know I am missing out on; let’s go delve into what you lovers of avocado derive from it!

Avocado is a single seeded pear shaped berry (yope, scientists say na berry) and it has over 20 minerals and vitamins. They are low in sugar and high in fibre. They contain a good amount of potassium, which helps in the control of blood pressure and lutein and folate (folate can reduce dangerous homocysteine levels in the blood and is also great for expectant mothers)

Avocados are high in monounsaturated fats, even though this is the kind of fat that should be consumed, but remember, moderation is the key, as they are high in calories. Monounsaturated fat helps in the reduction of bad cholesterol in the body and also reduction of high blood triglyceride level, which can be detrimental to cardiovascular health. This function also makes it great for diabetic patients.

It can also reduce inflammation of the joints that leads to arthritis

Did I mention they are great for the skin as well? You know there is no better way to improve on your beauty than to do so from within. They can help improve the appearance of the skin tone, maintain skin moisture levels to keep the skin supple and healthy. They can also be beneficial in moderating sebum (skin oil) production.

The fiber content can help with constipation and also in the prevention of colon cancer.

For those trying to lose weight, it can help with satiation, thereby reducing the need to eat more.

It is also great for the hair, as a lot of naturalistas use it in their home made deep conditioner to boost moisture level in their hair.

To be honest, the last is my main reason for going near avocados, but I should make a more conscious effort to include it in my meal plan.
