Weight loss 101: Quick Tips When Trying to Lose Weight.

Weight loss is easy and at the same time it isn’t easy. Coming from someone who has been trying to lose and keep off lost pounds for a couple of years, one thing I have learnt is that the major key to weight loss is willpower. Once you have that discipline of sticking to some basic rules, the rest is easier.


When they say abs are made in the kitchen, they were not lying. Weight loss is 80% of what you ingest and 20% exercise.

So, let’s take a quick look at some things you should take note of when trying to lose weight.

Cut down on sugars and carbs

Sugars and carbs stimulate insulin secretion, which is the main fat storage hormone in the body. A reduction in insulin secretion means the body starts burning stored fats. Furthermore, excess sodium and water is also easily shed from the body as well.



Eat Healthier, Watch your portions

Reduce the amount of already processed foods you consume as they are not as healthy as making your own fresh food. Making your own fresh food also means you are having the benefit of knowing exactly what you are consuming, in terms of the nutrients. If you must eat processed foods, try to follow the serving instructions which are written on the pack of most food items so you are counting calories. Never neglect your vegetables, fruits, healthy fats and proteins. You also get clearer skin to boot! Avoid added oils as much as you can. Bake, grill, boil instead of frying and if you must fry, remember, one tablespoon of vegetable oil is over 100 calories; keep that in mind!

Eating healthy doesn’t mean it’s a daily uncontrolled buffet. You CAN gain weight while eating healthy. Count your calories, take note of the amount of calories you consume in each meal, so you do not take more than what your body needs in a day. Move more

You need to be more active if you want to lose weight, especially if you live a sedentary life style. Jog, skip, swim, run, gym, do which ever catches your fancy, just ensure that you get in at least 30 minutes of rigorous physical activity at least 3 times a week. In that way, you lose weight faster just as you watch what you eat.


Drink more water

Water is not your enemy, drink at least three litres of water a day to help your body help you in your weight loss journey.
