Video Tutorial:Tips For Applying False Strip Eyelashes

The eyes, they say, are the windows to the soul and false eyelashes make these windows pop! Falsies, as they are sometimes called are either made of synthetic or human hair and as the variations go, human hair is always better, albeit more expensive than synthetic hair. There are two types of falsies: Strip eyelashes and Individual eyelashes. Strip eyelashes are easier to apply by oneself. They are applied from the inner corner of the eye to the outer corner in one strip. They usually last for a day and are re-usable. Their glues are different from the individual lashes which last for weeks. I am pretty new to applying falsies and the first time i got both eyes right, you would think i won a lottery.

Here are some things i wish i knew that would have made the job easier for me initially.

To start off with, a good eyelash adhesive is essential. You can either go for the one that dries clear or black. After putting glue on the falsies, allow it to dry for about 40 seconds to make it tacky, before putting on the lid.

  1. Stick your eyelashes band around a cylindrical object, like your mascara or finger. This gives it that more natural arch to conform to your eyelash line. Human hair lashes may bend more easily than synthetic one as the later are stiffer. Getting the lashes to form a u-shape makes them easier to apply, especially at the ends. Also, it is advisable to trim off excessive end (outside edge) if the band is too long for the eye. It isn’t a must you use the whole of it.
  2. Ensure your lids are oil free. It is hard for the adhesive to stick to oil. Even when removing the falsies, do not use oil on the band. Use an oil-free make up remover and a cotton bud (q-tip) to gently strip off the lashes. Afterwards, go in with some coconut oil on your lash line to take off any residual glue
  3. Not a lot of people have steady hands when applying falsies, the best way to tackle this is to put your mirror in a position that ensures you will look down. Place the mirror on a table in between your elbows to steady your hands. Placing the mirror beneath your face will help you know where your natural lash line is and where the falsies band will be placed.
  4. For a beginner, start with demi lashes or half lashes. These are shorter in width as they are only meant for the outer half of the eyes. They are easier to work with. But if you do want the full length lashes, you can also cut them up into three separate bands and apply them one at a time, close to each other. Start application from the innermost part of the eyes first, this helps you gauge where the rest will be placed. This also works best for falsies that are not thick, as the demarcation line may show through.
  5. After application, you can gently press down on your lid to use the skin to cover the lash band or cover it with mascara.
