This Is The Reason Why Your Scalp Itches!

Do you usually have an itch? Most times, we assume it must be dandruff, a common problem, but there are many conditions that can cause a dry, itchy scalp. An inflammatory skin condition called seborrheic dermatitis is also another cause of itchy scalp.

Causes of Itchy scalp include:

IRRITATED, OILY SKIN

You are more likely to have dandruff if you suffer from a condition called Seborrheic dermatitis, which affects many areas of the skin, including the scalp. In this case, the scalp produces extra skin cells. When these extra skin cells die and fall off, they mix with oils on the scalp, forming dandruff.

NOT BRUSHING YOUR HAIR ENOUGH

Brushing your hair regularly increases blood flow to the scalp, and helps in the normal shedding of skin, reducing the risk of dandruff. Plus, it’s totally relaxing!

DRY SKIN

This is especially an issue during winter months, as the cold winter air, combined with heated rooms indoors can cause and itchy scalp and flaking skin. Dandruff that is caused by dry skin, rather than oily skin usually falls off in smaller, non-oily flakes.

USING THE WRONG HAIR PRODUCTS

If you are still uncertain as to why you have dandruff, take a look at the hair products you are using, as some hair products can lead to an inflamed, itchy scalp.

Natural Remedies for Itchy Scalp

1. Tea Tree Oil

Tea tree oil is an amazing essential oil also known as melaleuca. What’s great about tea tree oil is that it provides antioxidant benefits and is antimicrobial, which means it has the ability to fight bacteria, viruses and fungus.

2. Apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, and antifungal properties. It can help reduce itching caused by dry skin. Try diluting apple cider vinegar in warm water and using it as a rinse after shampooing to alleviate dandruff and an itchy scalp.

3.Organic coconut oil

Organic coconut oil is naturally extracted from mature coconuts. It contains lauric acid, a saturated fat that has antimicrobial properties. Lauric acid helps the skin absorb coconut oil efficiently. This makes it a soothing treatment for itchy scalp.

4. Lemon juice

Because of its antiseptic properties, lemon juice can help ease your itchy head. Try pouring or spraying some lemon juice on your scalp. It can be fresh lemon juice or from a bottle. If the problem is mild, you can dilute it with water first. Leave it on for 5-10 minutes, then rinse it out. You can use this remedy daily.

5. Baking Soda

Baking soda’s alkaline nature helps balance out the pH of your hair and to relieve itchiness. Just make a paste with baking soda and water and rub onto your scalp. Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and then rinse it out.

Try to practice any of these tips and you will be on your way to an itch free hair. Remember to tell us your experience after using any of these tips. We will definitely love to hear from you!
